Boba Rhett Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Ricardo Montalban dies at 88 Ricardo Montalban, the Mexican-born actor who became a star in splashy MGM musicals and later as the wish-fulfilling Mr. Roarke in TV's "Fantasy Island," died Wednesday morning at his home, a city councilman said. He was 88. Montalban's death was announced at a meeting of the city council by president Eric Garcetti, who represents the district where the actor lived. Garcetti did not give a cause of death. "The Ricardo Montalban Theatre in my Council District -- where the next generations of performers participate in plays, musicals, and concerts -- stands as a fitting tribute to this consummate performer," Garcetti said later in a written statement. Montalban had been a star in Mexican movies when MGM brought him to Hollywood in 1946. He was cast in the leading role opposite Esther Williams in "Fiesta." He also starred with the swimming beauty in "On an Island with You" and "Neptune's Daughter." A later generation knew Montalban as the faintly mysterious, white-suited Mr. Roarke, who presided over an island resort where visitors were able to fulfill their lifelong dreams. "Fantasy Island" received high ratings for most of its 1978-1984 span on ABC television and still appears in reruns. How could they not mention Khan? Godspeed, Ricardo. I'm sure you're somewhere out there floating on a large couch made of rich Corinthian leather.
The Doctor Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 ... NO! D: He was such a great actor, his stint on that travesty of a show 'Fantasy Island' notwithstanding.
jrrtoken Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 The end of an era, with plenty of loose clothing seemingly sewn with rich, Corinthian leather. Oh, and it's Khan, not Kahn. Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show)
Aash Li Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Aww... In Ricardo's honour, I do the infamous flash: http://www.khaaan.com/
Chevron 7 locke Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 My sympathies go out to his family This sucks, he was such a great actor
Q Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 RIP, Ricardo. You were a terrific actor, and every guy wants to be as buff as you were at your age.
SW01 Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 RIP to the man who portrayed one of the greatest, and most memorable villians in Star Trek, movies or otherwise.
Ravnas Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 To the last, I will grapple with thee... from Hell's heart, I stab at thee! For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee!- Moby Dick and Khan's final words R.I.P Ricardo:(
Astor Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 RIP to, as SW says, one of the best Star Trek villains ever.
Jae Onasi Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 RIP, Mr. Montalban. I loved watching you in Fantasy Island and Star Trek. You made what could have been horribly cheesy cake-walk parts into people with emotional depth and realistic motives, and you were the best actor in all the Star Trek films.

Arátoeldar Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Rest In Peace Ricardo Montalbán. A true class act. Which is a dying breed in Hollywierd. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/39767 I highly suggest you take a look at his film work before 1967 to truly appreciate him as an actor.
Char Ell Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Fare thee well, Ricardo Montalban. Your intense portrayal of Khan brought out the primal passion in an otherwise fairly staid Star Trek.
Samnmax221 Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Ricardo Montalban and Patrick McGoohan in one day. I would sacrifice a million Katie Couric's each to get them back.
mimartin Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 RIP I hope your coffin is lined with soft Corinthian Leather.
The Doctor Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Wouldn't it be awesome if Bill Shatner attends his funeral, and goes up to the pulpit to "say a few words"? And all he says is "KHAAAAAAAAN!"? Epic. XD

LordOfTheFish Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 How sad. He was such a great actor. My thoughts go out to his family.
