Since I suppose you mean using a thumbstick on a gamepad, I'd use inverted Y-axis for freelook, much like with a joystick in a flight sim. With a mouse, it's standard, freelook or not.

On foot and in land vehicles, I'll use normal, but for air vehicles, I'll use inverted.

This is what I do.

Inverted just makes more sense to me.

Same, honestly I don't know how people play with "normal" and I don't know why normal is the default in all games. For me part of it might be the fact that on PC X-Wing was one of the first direct control games I played (I probably had mostly only played adventure games before).

I don't recall, but I think I may have started out playing JK1 inverted, but somehow I switched and got used to it, and now that's all I use. It feels more intuitive (in a flight sim it would be the opposite of course).

 

If I were moving my mouse around the screen, that's where my crosshair would go in a game, and the character's "head" etc).
