SCUMM games contain the interpreter (the exe file) and the resource files (the game data). To find the version info for the interpreter you run the game (in dosbox these days) with an invalid command line parameter like /? and it'll output the version of the interpreter and its build date Interpreter Verson 5.2.02 (Nov 21 1991 08:35:15) Unknown flag: '/?' The game data also has version info that you can access by pressing ctrl+v ingame. For years we've had text files with lists of different interpreter versions but not the version info from the scripts. For the 3 of us who care about things like this its a pain to gather the different information. I've made a program that automatically extracts the version information from a folder of SCUMM games, puts it in a grid and lets you export it to a spreadsheet. For the interpreters only the Dos and Windows versions are parsed but for the game scripts its platform-agnostic and has been tested with Amiga, Atari, FM-Towns and Mac games. Download it here. Here is my list of version information. One oddity I've noticed from the game scripts is that the DOTT demo is named in the game scripts as "Day of the Tentacle BBS Contest DEMO". Anyone know anything about any contest for DOTT?4 points

I wonder if these were made by three different illustrators because there seems to be a different signature on every poster. In the AitD 1 Poster, on the lower left side, there seems to be the name Eagle, but I am not entierly sure. That name doesn't show up in the manual. In the AitD 2 Poster, the name CALL can be seen below the steps on the right. In the game's manual, you can find the name Greg Call under "Special Thanks". And the AitD 3 Poster: I'm not sure if that is a signature or my brain is misinterpreting something, but below the right boot of Carnby, there seem to be the letters GB engraved on the floor. Sadly I can't find the full name in the manual.2 points

I also just wanna say that the game's visuals keep impressing me and giving off a new but distinctly Monkey Island/Ron Gilbert vibe. There's a really cool glow coming off Lechuck and the rain effecs just make the whole evil pirate ship come alive. This may be heresy, but I might end up ranking this as my favourite looking Monkey Island game. There's a lot here that just click for me, and it's saying a lot because I adore Curse. If that game ever gets remastered though it could easily jump back on top.2 points

Something interesting to note that might be of no consequence whatsoever--it looks like LeChuck has ghost, zombie and demon crewmembers, if I'm reading that red on-fire guy right. In other words, henchpeople corresponding to each of his major forms. Maybe significant, maybe not at all!2 points

Yeah, but it was rigged for Dead Cousin Ted... Couldn't help myself. I'll look through what I have.2 points

I bet it works fine in the real game, in the context we havenβt seen yet. I know thatβs a boring unfun thing to say when all we have to do right now is speculate on these tiny clips, but eh. Usually this sort of joke works in these games just fine in context.2 points

The re-use of character models in Tales of Monkey Island was not a system constraint but a deliberate homage to the replicated animatronics in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean rides: https://earzup-podcast.com/2021/03/the-many-faces-of-disneylands-pirates-of-the-caribbean-part-1/ This opinion is unpopular because it is objectively wrong. But maybe you can start circulating it anyway.2 points

I asked Tim and Dave about the BBS demo string on Twitter and neither of them remembered. Or theyβre covering up some huge conspiracy. Either way itβll remain a mystery for now I guess.1 point

Marius. Indeed, here is the results after a short investigation (on twitter :)): AITD 1 : Bruce Eagle AITD 2 : Greg Call AITD 3 : Still not sure...1 point

I've been actively looking for the original author of these 3 illustrations for Alone in the Dark for several weeks now... But I can't find it. Does anyone know anything by chance?1 point

Even if Harnell plays it comedically in this take, it's clear that he could almost go as growly as Boen. I bet we'll hear a more menacing LeChuck in this game as well.1 point

In Return to Monkey Island we finally find out that the world of Monkey Island is actually the real world and that real life is actually a video game. The final chapter is actually Guybrush coming out from the computer to pull us in and live as a pirate by his side (maybe, idk, you decide). Also, the secret of Monkey Island IS the giant robot monkey, built by Lemonhead in a moment of boredom Also also, all the different Guybrush designs are because clones1 point

Yeah and even one that appears to be human, which would essentially cover the entire spectrum of his forms from Secret to Tales.1 point

Right, I guess the rationale here is 'what could be less spoilery than a clip of lechuck saying, well, nothing really?' If I had to guess though, I would say that this is either guybrush recalling what he overheard LeChuck saying and trying to play it back, or that one pirate leader we see on the scene (Captain Madison, perhaps?) doing the same thing. I can see the humour in someone trying to recount some important stuff LeChuck said but only being able to remember vague details, but still showing that play out in LeChuck's voice. Perhaps his voice is supposed to sound a bit moanier in this clip than it will actually be in person, and we'll see a more menacing side to him yet. I feel like the games have always had goofy moments with LeChuck though, even when he was quite scary. I mean, in MI2 even during the end you're having him distracted by picking up coins, offering him a hanky, giving him a wedgie and trapping his beard in an elevator door. And during Guybrush's first proper interaction with LeChuck in MI1 he becomes completely flustered by Elaine's plan. So I definitely think he's always a character who has had the capacity to be the butt of jokes, but I'd still like to see those moments where he can give me the creeps.1 point

You're probably right... Makes you wonder: Why take it out of context and use it as one of the rare clips from your game? I think they're deliberately taking clips that don't reveal anything, which is fine by me!1 point

It takes some getting used to because we're so accustomed to Earl Boen, but Jess Harnell's take is really good. The blahs are interesting (and imo very funny π), my first thought was the narrator getting bored of the meanwhiles in LeChuck's Revenge, but there might he something else going on, I'm not too sure. Aaargh, I just can't wait to play this thing!1 point

I see a lot of comments saying LeChuck seems too goofy, but I always find that LeChuck is at his best when he has goofy moments that disarm us and then a sudden shift to scary and creepy. LeChuck's Revenge was probably the closest to seeing a purely serious and sadistic LeChuck, followed closely by Tales Episode 5, but I think it can work better when you don't expect it. The idea that we can laugh at this guy, but then remember in the next scene that he kills and tortures people, forms pacts with demon netherworlds, becomes a demon himself, and conducts satanic rituals, has always been one of my core experiences with the series. The trailer implies that LeChuck will very much still have plenty of dark moments and remain a legitimate threat, which I think is the more important piece. I don't mind him having goofy moments, so long as he's still a legitimate threat. I would also say that I don't view LeChuck himself as being really goofy here; it's just the context of the scene. The scenes that will showcase his malice will be when to really judge if this version is too goofy or not, but so far, I really like the voice and it fits the character well in my opinion.1 point

Yes, but I believe those were meant to read as the "narrator" complaining about having to repeat that description each time1 point

Didn't some blah blahs also happen with one of the LeChuck's fortress exteriors? As a fan of MI2's creepy LeChuck, I'm not loving this goofy LeChuck with his stubby legs and cartoony voice, but as with everything else, looking forward to seeing it all in proper context.1 point

What I miss the most in the CD version is the verb interface becoming red when you're in the Monkey Island catacombs. Both the EGA and VGA floppy releases had it. I really liked that dramatic effect the first time I reached that part of the game, but they've dropped it with the new verb interface of the CD release.1 point

Fate of Atlantis subs in "blah blah" for Sophia's dialogue with Trottier while you sneak around during the seance even in the voiced version as I recall. So there's some precedent. Edit: Who needs conjunctions1 point

This looks like a callback: We see LeChuck threaten his minions again and again and again... until eventually it just becomes noise. ("blah blah blah... flailed alive... blah blah... keelhauled... blah blah... walk the plank") Like the party dialogue at Elaine's mansion. Except it works better written, I think. The acted version would work better if it faded to black and slowly turned down LeChuck's dialogue if you ask me.1 point

I like the voice, and itβs interesting that theyβve gone kind of in the opposite direction of where I think some of us were speculating. LeChuck doesnβt sound older or more weary here to me. Hardly seems like a βdarkerβ version of the character. I like that heβs being portrayed as a boring old boss droning on and on, though! Most of all, I just want to reach inside these clips and turn on the setting to make the dialogue text float above their heads!1 point

This scene has so many amazing graphical effects. The rain, the fire, the swinging light with the fog. The vibes here are immaculate1 point

I don't have much of an opinion on the voice as I feel like it's too early to say, and not even a 'real' kind of line read, buuuuut I am soooo glad they went another direction and didn't just try for a Boen impression.1 point
