Maybe this'll get removed from by admins for good reasons that I can't think of, but here goes: I don't want to check the Return to Monkey Island thread until I've completed the game now, but I'd still like to keep myself abreast of (non-spoilery) updates, news, chit chat, and just generally entertain myself while the Unbearable Waitβ’ slowly crushes my spirit. And maybe this thread can also be a place to discuss spoiler-free opinions on ReMI once it's released, but before someone has completed it. Only 19 days to go... I can survive this3 points

Desperately waiting for a PC release. I really hope they're announcing one soon. It's GOG or bust. π΄ββ οΈ2 points

I would've preordered both but I've no intention of paying for anything on Steam and I'd like the physical edition on the Switch. I'll probably end up playing the Switch version first while waiting (hoping) for a GOG release.2 points

I pre-ordered both, as that is just the journalistic integrity the people expect from Mojo.2 points

Shoot, it is Revenge. Jojo, and two intro monkeys for THREE total. I can't change my answer from Secret, sadly. Secret has Smirk's hat monkey which may be the same as Bride Monkey #1, it has the monkey on Monkey Island, the three-headed monkey, and Bride Monkey #2. That's FOUR OR FIVE monkeys, depending on whether the hat monkey appears twice. Remember that Curse has the monkeys at Danjer Cove AND the Carnival of the Damned, visible in the background of LeChuck's monologue. Escape has a virtually limitless supply. Tales has several, with the subplot of LeChuck and Elaine rehoming thrm.1 point

Also itβs just occurred to me but isnβt there a monkey by every portal opening in chapter 5 of tales. I think lechucks spell has them open in the presence of his enchanted monkeys so thatβs like 5 or so right there if iβm right.1 point
-
Damn. I was so sure i had it. I give up. Also does captain lechimp count. He looks like a gorilla, is named after a chimpanzee but given the company he keeps, may just be a giant monkey. π1 point

Secrets got the monkey that opperates the machine and the one that opens the gate. There are 2 monkeys in the wedding dress that use the same two sprites but given the context iβm going to count them as two separate monkeys bringing the total to 4. revenge i think only has jojo curse has 7 in the theatre and 6 on deck but they could be the exact same ones meaning all we can say is that thereβs a minimum of 7 Escape has jojo jr, timmy the monkey, and several random monkeys that have been drawn to the island who likely bring the total up above curse but iβm not going to count. tales has jacques the electromagnetic monkey and a large amount of off screen but plot relevant monkey but i think we only see a couple (again, iβm not going to count.) so my best estimate goes (from most to least) escape, curse, secret, tales, revenge.1 point

Damn things are everywhere! I hope Vainamoinen has a definitive answer to all this! So MI2 there's... the two in the opening credits (missing in the SE). Jojo (appearing nightly). Three in total?1 point
-
This is 3 monkeys according to the stated rules of the poll. So we're up to 7 monkeys in SoMI?1 point
-
I think the ones in the theater are LeChimp's crew, so that would be counting them twice.1 point
-
Isnβt Secret the right answer? Thereβs just the one opening the Monkey head gate, right? in Tales, there is one on the boat at the beginningβ¦ and one in the Laboratoryβ¦ Hmmmβ¦ Curse has probably the most Monkeys, right? Donβt forget the ones in the theater!1 point
-
Bah, I voted for Tales... but I think it might be Curse now.1 point

Thankfully it didn't ruin a huge amount, but considering how careful I'd been, especially during the last season, it was a bit maddening.1 point
-
Escape has a giant robo monkey, does that give it bonus points? π1 point

Did Tales have more than one? I'm going with Tales. Wait! It has two, doesn't it? Are we counting the ones in the hold, too? This is an overly difficult question when you start breaking it down.1 point

I hate it when that happens. Itβs almost unavoidable. Some people think itβs okay to spoil things without warning when theyβre from older movies/shows/games. I think some people deserve to have their house toilet papered.1 point

If Sam & Max is any indication, the controversy around RtMI's visuals will cause the game to be review-bombed on GOG. Not that a MI game needs a good rating to sell.1 point

Thank you for this thread! Iβve been biting my pillows to shreds trying to get my ReMI kick, because I donβt want to go into the spoilery Return to Monkey Island thread.1 point

Thank you for your answer ! For the prices on eBay about Secret of Monkey Island, I just had a look and the prices are like 280 euros, 350 euros, 535 euros for the big box of MK1 and even 116 euros just for the 3" 1/2 floppy 0_o I even spotted an offer of 40 euros for the floppy number 4 of the 5" 1/4 version! Totally crazy. That's why I'm aiming to have a decent price around 50 euros just to be able to reimburse the costs of printing and design. Thank for the suggestion, the box of Zak might be a good idea too ! I will share my achievements. Working on the wheel and I will print the stickers soon ! Stay tuned !1 point

Of course, there's always the possibility that the game's hint system is so good that we won't need external help.1 point

I think it might be worth making an actual spoiler sub forum that goes live when the game does, for people to post about hints and whatever else. For now a spoiler free thread makes sense to me at least π€·ββοΈ1 point

Well shuck, apparently it wouldn't help anyway. It was delisted in 2018. https://delistedgames.com/the-cave/ This is the cruddy side of the digital age. In contrast, a PS2 game like Escape from Monkey Island can still be purchased decades later.1 point

Yeah itβs Gavin Hammon playing Stan in Return, and he was Stan in Tales as well. (Heβs also Kenny in The Walking Dead.) Kurt Russell in Used Cars, like Stan himself, are both takes on Cal Worthington. Somewhere between Cal and The Music Man (archetype reused as the Monorail salesman in the Simpsons) β that fast talking nasal voice with a tiny drawl β is how I always pictured Stan in the original games, and the slow, smooth talking version in Curse never felt right to me.1 point

Iβm hoping thatβs the case. It certainly was when I replayed Thimbleweed Park recently. Much better to keep it in game than have to Google for answers and accidentally get spoiled. Although itβs hard to avoid spoilers these days. I was searching for a work thing the other day and got a screen grab from (what I correctly guessed) was the final shot of Better Call Saul. My favourite show that Iβd avoided all spoilers for for years! π¬0 points
