Jae Onasi
Heh, HerbieZ and ChAiNz.2da, you should never turn me loose with a suggestion about kittens. I love them to death. We've had as many as 3 cats at one time, and we're at 2 right now. One of our cats looked a lot like this when she was a kitten. Her name was Ophelia. (picture is 'FolgerFuzz SmoknLdy of Ragtime Cats' from FolgerFuzz RagaMuffins website) Ophelia would do tricks--no kidding! She did 'sit', 'sit up', 'give me 5', 'high 5', 'fetch' (with a wad of paper or a small ball, but you had to have a shoe next to you for her to drop it into or she wouldn't bring it all the way back!), 'jump over a stick' and 'jump through a hoop'. She'd do just about anything for a piece of tuna. Anyone else have some fun kitten/cat stories? And no, your 'fun' torturing kittens/cats does not count, I'll hit the report post button on all animal abuse posts faster than you can say 'cat' and ask the mods to please delete those because I'd like this to be an upbeat thread. Anyway, we found Ophelia on campus where I was going to college when she was about 2 months old, and Jimbo took her home with him. Until she died last year, he joked about how he'd been living with her longer than he'd been living with me, since he picked her up about 4 or 5 months before we got married. We still have 2 other cats--Chelsea, who is 18 and really sweet, but dumber than a box of rocks (has run into sliding glass doors several times, and got out of the house one time and got lost!), and Higgins, who is 14 and is Mr. Personality. Like Higgins on Magnum PI, he's always talking (vet thinks he's part Siamese) and looks very gentlemanly in his black-and-white coat. He's also smart and does as many tricks as Ophelia did. Inyri
I've got four cats right now - three girls and one boy. The boy just wants to play with everyone, and none of the girls want anything to do with him... the snarling and hissing apparently haven't clued him in. But he's still a kitten, for the most part, so they ought to cut him some slack. All of our cats are fairly young - none of them are over 5, unless I've lost count, but as it is you can't just have one cat. And apparently the shelter will tell you not to have an odd number, and my mom fell for it. I love 'em all, though. Even though I swore one of them almost broke my wrist last week. That says more about me than it does about the cat though...

Emperor Devon
Anyone else have some fun kitten/cat stories? To squash your record, I've had seven at once before. I've had thirteen in total. I have two right now, Mr. Nezbit and Ginger. The first one's part tabby and siamese, so he acts kind of wierd (though don't all cats?). He likes to suck on blankets, and starts drooling when he's happy. The second one has no personality whatsoever, and never makes any sounds. She's kind of indifferent, and probably wouldn't care if I turned her upside-down. She's easily the cutest of all the ones I've had, though. My dad has two other ones, who are even wierder. One's an old calico namd Fuzz, who eats literally anything. I've seen her drink coffee, maple syrup, and even eat lima beans. The only thing she's refused are rocks and unripe apples. The other one is Rana, who's completely insane. She's a small little kitten, and has tried to attack raccoons. She even tried to tackle me by jumping on my leg. Now she just kills various rodents and birds every few days. I could go on about the other nine I've had, but that would take way too long. Q
I'm more of a dog person myself (my being allergic to cats has a lot to do with it:xp: ), but my family had its share of cool cats while I was growing up. They certainly have personalities as unique as those possessed by dogs. You might find it interesting that while dogs were domesticated by man way back in prehistoric times, cats are termed as "self domesticated," meaning that they came to live among mankind on their own, and quite recently from a historical perspective (within the last 5000 years). Apparently they found that living with man was to their advantage, and decided to adopt us. How typically cat-like.
Titanius Anglesmith
I would have a cat but my mom is allergic, hehe, but I am gunna get a bunch of cats when I get my own house. I have 3 dogs thoguh, and that's fun enough for now.

Negative Sun
I used to have a pure Persian cat called Chloe, she was just quiet and introverted most of the time...She just kinda vanished one day though, went out and never came back, she was 15 though, we think maybe she just went off somewhere to find a peaceful place to pass on, or at least that's what we like to think... My mom still has our male cat, Spirou, who's a real Garfield, lazy as anything, quite chubby, eating machine and very grumpy sometimes lol Love em both
JediMaster12
I have two right now. One is a saucy and prissy little tabby named Dottie. She's actually my brother's cat and her disposition is just like his, thinks she all that. When she meows she doesn't open her mouth at all and she loves feathers and furry things to play with. My baby is, don't laugh, named Bob. Yes he is named Bob. He's a black short hair that we adopted from the streets. WHen he was a baby he was so fuzzy, he looked like a little black bear. He has yellow eyes and always looks like he is scared out of his mind. He is fast and he can leap pretty high. His best trick is when he wants to be pet. I just stand there and he rears on his hind legs and grabs my fingers with his paws and rubs his face in them. He's my especial pet and I love him to bits. He is straneg in that he like feet; he chews on toes and he likes to eat sweet stuff. He once ate chocolate pudding. It's a wonder he didn't drop dead. HerbieZ
I knew this thread would start! Brilliant. I love kittens and cats. I have a grown up cat called Duke at the mo, he's black and has a gigantic fluff tail. Theres another one which is a tortoiseshell-pattern cat that's asleep on my bed right now. We have no idea who's it is, it just jumps in through the window and sleeps anywhere in the house. I call it Big-D after the nuts.
Jae Onasi
What an unfortunate name for an animal... she didn't drown did she? Nope, old age (she was 16 or 17) and kidney failure. We called her that because one day she got into some minor trouble, and Jimbo joked "Get thee to a nunnery!" She was Ophelia ever after. @Emperor Devon--were you wanting to support the pet food and kitty litter industry all on your own? @Darth333--when 'mini-Jae' got one of those stuffed 'The Dog' things from McDonald's a couple years ago, she was thrilled. When I came home from work, she showed me her little stuffed schnauzer and said excitedly, "Mama! We went to McDonald's and I got a Sneezer!!" St. Jimmy
We have three cats. Tabby: My sister's cat. It's a psycho little thing that we hardly ever see. She comes around for meal times and that's about it. In case you haven't guessed, She has tabby colours and markings. Emilio Lopez/Scumbo: When we lived in Adelaide, I found this cat wondering our front yard. He was rather young, and he has black and white markings. The markings on his face make a "mask", which is pretty cool. Because he was a stray, I called him Scumbo (as in, Scumbag) This name stuck for a while. But because he was/is so sneaky, my father named him Emilio Lopez (after the "sneaky sneaky" butler from Adam Sandler's movie 'Mr. Deeds".) My dad HATES him now and doesn't let him in the house, but when Dad's at work we let the cat stick around. Tootsie: Our oldest cat. He's the laziest bastard you'll ever meet. Black all over except for his tummy and toes (hence the name 'Tootsie'.), he is the collest, most affectionate cat ever. He won't do anything himself, ever. All he ever does is sleep, on (our) beds, the floor, the lounge, the grass... He has one emotion: 'I hate you all'. But he rocks hardcore. Oh yeah, he only has three legs. One time, he got into a fight, got a scratch, and got infected. It was the leg or the cat. We chose the cat. So yeah, he sits around the house being lazy. -In other related news- Nextdoor, for the past 48 hours, a dumbass cat has been stuck up a palm tree for the third time in the last month. I wouldn't really care much, but the DAMN THING WON'T SHUT UP! I'm not joking, since it's been stuck up there, it hasn't shut it's pie-hole once. The only good thing about the stupid thing getting stuck there, is when it falls out. Ha. That's a laugh.
Astrotoy7
YAY!!!! CAT THREAD !!!!!! (MY FAVE SUBJECT) My pride and joy is Astro (Jr.) Comes from a prize winning line His half sister("Magic Muffin" - lolz) has just taken out First place in The 2006 Royal Melbourne Show, which is a huge accolade for the breeder. My Astro is almost 2 now, and has the ample frame and velvety coat common to all British Shorthair Purebreeds. Little Kimba, is a purebreed Snow Bengal. A rarer breed of the bengal line, which were first created from mating a house cat with a small mountain leopard !!(Prionailurius Bengalensis). Taking a pic of Kimba is very difficult, due to their wild heritage Bengals are always on the move. Most of my pics of him are blurs or when he is asleep. Despite being *very* different breeds and sizes, my boys are very good friends and are often cuddled up After having help raise 4 kids(including 3 teens) by age 31, I am totally OVER human kids...I prefer my cats thankyouverymuch cats > humans. But we all know that dont we mtfbwya

Totenkopf
Well, ChAiNz, you asked for it and I think Jae may just have a Toyota dealership somewhere. For anyone that doesn't get that, Toyota had a slogan....You asked for it, you got it, Toyota. I think her slogan is something like ...a kitten w/every new car. @ED-you're quite right. mimartin
I’ve had two cats in my life; I’m more of a large (outdoor) dog person. When I was a small child, I had a cat by the name of Boots. She followed me around like a dog. I really think it thought I was her pet. I lived outside of town on a dead end road, but that did not prevent my uncle from running her over while he was drunk. I never wanted another cat, but when I got to college my roommates had a cat named KC (Kitty Cat). I tried not to get attached and keep my distance. I woke up for class around 6 am and was the first down stairs. That made me the one to feed the cat and it soon became attached to me. Then as exams came around and no one was in the apartment very much the cat started peeing on my pillow. We took the thing to the vet and the vet said I should be honored because its peeing on my pillow was a sign of affection. It showed that the cat missed me. Sorry, but I didn’t take it as such and moved out of the apartment after the school year. I don’t want anything that shows its affection for me by peeing where I sleep. I’ll stick with black labs. They may occasionally draw blood while playing, but they never urinated on my bed.
JediMaster12
My brother's tabby gives him wet willies with her nose. Once she gave him CPR and the 'kiss' of life.' My Bob, my dummy, my furball, gives me kitty kisses. Tes he licks me with his tongue. Often it is on my nose but other times he licks me feet. The cat has a foot fetish. HE rubs his head on my dad's feet and he tries to eat mine. What can I say, the cat loves me.
Darth InSidious
I'm probably going to get quite a few DS points for this, but... ...I hate cats. They leave hair everywhere, they smell, and they are incredibly selfish. The only affection they give out is in exchange for food, IMO. That, and they are a gargantuan effort to maintain, and another whole in the income... I don't have pets, largely because of cost and the fact that I'm at an office all day, I generally don't have time for them, and they would probably get in the way... Emperor Devon
@ED-you're quite right. I was too tired and lazy at that point to switch threads. I was kidding. The only affection they give out is in exchange for food, IMO. Not so at all, DI. My cat Mr. Nezbit tries to follow me everywhere, to the point that he'll wait outside my bedroom door in the morning. One time when I was busy with some stuff and didn't want any distractions, he waited outside for over an hour before I finally gave up and let him in. I gave him some attention for a while, and he fell asleep for a few hours. They don't always want food. That, and they are a gargantuan effort to maintain, Far from it. All I have to do is fill their food and water bowls, sometimes empty the litterbox (I try to have them do it outside), and give attention. They're pretty self-sufficient pets. You've given me a run for my money in DS points, though.

Mace MacLeod
Aw...kitties. I've always been a cat person, and sadly, the last 3 cats my little family and I had, we had to give away before we moved over to the Emerald Isle. I'm the one who had to do it, which has a lot to do with why I've put my foot down and not allowed any pets here. Anyway. Last 3 kitties we had: Sylvester: total Sylvester cat. Looked exactly like him. The king of all sucky-pusses. Loved his belly rubbed, and when I picked him up, I could flip him over on his back and he'd reach up flex his claws in my beard purring like mad while I rubbed his belly. I actually taught him to talk; he was really quiet until I moved in with my wife and started meowing to him (had cats all my life, remember). When I did that, a little light bulb went on over his head and he quickly caught on to the fact that humans pay attention to things that make loud noises. From there on, the trick was getting him to shut up. The sweetest, nicest cat who ever lived. Shadow: Sylvester's little sister, a couple of litters down. She ended up my daughter's cat; both of them were about 90% hair. Much more skittish and less gregarious than her older brother, but for some reason she and my kid just had that special rapport. Even at about 5, my kid could pick her up and waltz around the house with her, then stop short and plunk her down, and Shadow would stay stock-still, purring away. The furriest creature on four legs. Used to sleep beside my pillow (the only place she was safe from playfights with her older brother). Another sucker for belly rubs. Kismit: After moving in with my (now) wife, she got pissed off that both her cats liked me and her daughter better than her, so she got this little fire-spitting short-haired orange tabby kitten from a friend. Far and away the most tempermental cat in our house. He grew up (and up...and up...) to be the self-appointed watchcat in our house; any time someone new came over, he'd hang around milling about their ankles and take a chunk out of them if they reached down to pet him. He and Sylvester were the best buddies ever. Slyvester actually let him suckle when Kismit was a kitten. Seriously. As an adult, they'd have wrestling matches in the living room then settle down into a big black white and orange furball on the edge of the bed. To get a handle on all their personalities, if you came over to our apartment in Vancouver, Sylvester would be sitting on your lap purring like a motorboat, Kismit would be sitting a few feet away keeping an eye on you and hissing periodically, and Shadow would be underneath the carpet in the closet. Broke my heart to have to give them away.
