2012 Olympic Logo

I'm surprised nobody from the UK (mainly England) has made a Thread about the worst Olympic Logo to date. No, make that the worst logo to date. Hopefully they won't use the logo when 2012 does come, but everyone who has attempted to make a 2012 Olympic logo is much better than that. I'll say what I don't like about it later.

Please discuss and I'll edit this Thread later, when I find a better picture of it.

I didn't bother making a thread, because I still had a vain hope that (especially after all the fuss about the epilepsy-causing TV commercial of the logo that they eventually had to edit), that the horrible logo would be replaced by something better.

The very first time I saw it, it looked like the letters 'S-O-R' to me instead of 2012. And 's-o-r-E' was exactly how my eyes felt after looking at it again. *sigh* I think it's absolutely horrible. Pink for the Olympics? Puh-leeze.

And the organisers spent thousands of pounds on the design? I thought they were kidding at first, but, no. They did. Too bad the publicity firm responsible for the horrible looking logo didn't do any research on how not to cause photo-sensitive epilepsy before releasing their first commercial showcasing it. Doesn't instill a whole lot of confidence in me that the money was well-spent. The designers have said they were trying to cater to the 'younger' crowd, but do pre-schoolers really watch the games, let alone purchase any Olympic merchandise? *shakes head and sighs with dismay* Unless Scooby Doo is running in the 500m sprint, or Sponge Bob is swimming in the 250m freestyle, I don't think any of the 'younger' crowd will really care about the games.

I'll give the organisers one thing though. The logo did give them a lot of publicity. Whether or not it's the right kind of publicity remains to be seen. I for one am certainly not purchasing anything with the logo on it. Bad enough just to have to look at it for the next five years as they try to promote the games.

I just now noticed that it said 2012 in the shapes. Is that some sort of subliminal message, that forces young'uns to watch the Olympics. Which, as Ray Jones pointed out, is nothing to what it used to be.

The Olympics used to be...THE OLYMPICS! But now its nothing. No one knows anyone who competes in any of the events. Name five people who participate in the javelin throw, or the long jump, etc.

That is absolutely the worst logo I have ever seen. I am sorry but I am going to say it: it is a monstrosity. The five rings are supposed to represent the five continents that compete in the events. That pink whatever it is an eyesore. They pay people to do this?

Actually the intent for the Olympics was for amateurs to compete for pride, honor and glory. That was what the Greeks intended when the games were first begun. Now I have to say is that there are disappointments. It seemed like they were loading the Dream Tean, the US b-ball team with pros. That stunk.

I still think that only high school and college-level competitional sports are worth watching; Professional leagues and the olympics are soulless and over-commercialized.

by the way, I all I can see in that logo now is lisa. thanks guys.

The Olympics were better in Ancient times....when it was only muscular mediterranean men competing with no clothes on [/homoerotic]

:p

mtfbwya

They were the only Olympics I'd watch

*lets out a dreamy sigh*

Anyway, that logo has graphical potential; If you delete it and start again *badoom tish!* It's goodnight from me and it's goodnight from hum [ie the way Blair says Hum rather than Him], goodnight!

I saw that not long ago... nearly died from the amount of laughter that transpired later on.

#1 on this page is so much better.

There is not a way to say this politely, that is hideous. If they paid the firm over $1.99 for its design they were robbed.

Does it suppose to have some type of hidden political meaning, like the five shattered pieces of world peace? Or is it just suppose to be ugly?
