Darth333
I`m currently on a (business) trip in the Arctic and I`d thought I`d post some pics I have taken yesterday and during a previous trip in March. Enjoy (and never complain about the cold again ) Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day and we spent a few hours on the beach: sunbathing on the beach beach houses walking on the river dog team on the frozen sea Inuit children Easter celebrations - dog team race departure our "do it all by yourself" hotel - the best one in this part of the world (in some other villages its almost just an old shack)...and with satellite internet access (woot!) We still get to do the cooking and the washing though and hope we won't run out of water as there is no acqueduct as a truck has to deliver it everyday. If the weather is bad and the plane cannot depart, you can end up having to sleep in the broom closet (litterally) if the hotel is full Pics taken during my March trip: Village seen from the sky before landing (there is no road access at all. Roads stop about 800km down South) You thought -20C was cold? Here`s me at -40 before wind factor (and no, I don`t have white hair or eyebrows! - maybe when I reach Jae`s age but not yet - That`s ice you see ) View of village from hotel (there are no more trees at this latitude) ...as for Santa, I`ve been there regularly since 2001 and I have yet to meet with him...so far I`ve only seen Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer`s little brothers (wild caribous)

Emperor Devon
When 900 years old you reach. Jae really is 40. Permanently 130, ED. Get it right. --Jae Nice try with the age change, too. The age goes up 10 years each time you edit my post, y'know. And geez, we've been going back and forth over this post about 5 times now. --ED Very kewl pics there, D3! Though how does being a lawyer in Montreal get you yearly trips to the Arctic?
Davinq
Wow, that must be quite the trip D3. But if it's so cold, then how come the pics all seem bright/semi-sunny? Is it really that cold? Sheesh, and I thought winter mornings in New Zealand were bad.
Darth333
Very kewl pics there, D3! Though how does being a lawyer in Montreal get you yearly trips to the Arctic? Right now it`s more like monthly trips than yearly trips...as for why, who doesn`t need a lawyer? Wow, that must be quite the trip D3. But if it's so cold, then how come the pics all seem bright/semi-sunny? Is it really that cold? Yes, it`s that cold: we hit -61C (with wind factor) in January. You don`t even think of taking out the camera at those temperatures: it hurts terribly just to remove your mitts for a few seconds...anyway, the camera freezes instantly too . You need a special suit and mitts too (I use sealskin mitts), not just an ordinary snowsuit, and real furs (it`s the only thing that will keep you warm) around the hood to avoid frostbites if you want to go out for more than a few minutes. This week it isn`t really cold though. It`s spring time so it`s around -10 during the day and -20 at night. However, it is not because it is sunny that it isn`t cold. Some of the coldest days happen in clear weather.

Char Ell
Wow. There sure is a lot of white in those pics. And why do these people live in a forsaken world of frost that has no road access? .. who doesn`t need a lawyer? Isn't that the fortunate/unfortunate truth! depending on whether or not you're a lawyer getting paid or having to pay for one Stay warm D3! And remember not to fall in with those crazy Polar Bear Club people.
