True_Avery
So, we have seen a few good movie and good book threads pop up for summer, but how about this. What is the absolute worst movie and/or book you have had the displeasure or pleasure of watching/reading in your life? I think with something like this, a lot of us will want to be pretty descriptive on why we hate it so much
REDJOHNNYMIKE
Star Wars Episode 1!!!!!! Any dictionary!!!!
Pho3nix
Worst movie? probably Eragon. Unimaginably bad. I haven't read a bad book so I can't answer that question.
spinkle
Worst Book: Jane Eyre. Worst Movie: French film called Happiness. Not nearly the same as the Todd Solondz' absolutely disturbing pic...for one thing, a hell of a lot less actually happens in this one. Imagine Sartre on Prozac teaming up with Camus on acid and you're about halfway there.
JoeDoe 2.0
WORST MOVIE: DOOM, it does not do justice to the game
Fish.Stapler
Book: I cannot STAND Atlas Shrugged. Even thinking about it or Ayn Rand makes my blood boil. Movie: Baby Geniuses.
JasraLantill
Star Wars Episode 1!!!!!! Any dictionary!!!! Wow... you like actually read the dictionary? Abridged or unabridged? My worst film has got to be The Blair Witch Project. I kept waiting for it to get better... and it never did. It's the only movie I've ever walked out of the theatre on. My worst book? Got to be a tie between Melville's Moby Dick and Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter. Unless we're counting books to fall asleep with. They were great for that. mimartin
Worst movie is a not an easy one. I am going to have to go with Ishtar (1987). With two of the greatest actors of their generation in Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty and a great supporting cast including Charles Grodin and Carol Kane and to produce such drivel was tragic. I give a close second in the movie category to Soul Man 1986. I doubt with the political correctness of today society this movie could even be made in this day and age, which is reason enough to keep political correctness going. It is the story of a white young man taking a scholarship intended for an African American student in order to attend Harvard Law School. He learns a life lesson, same as every other 80’s teen movie, but never really suffers for his crime. He ends up doing what he should of done to begin with a getting a job to put himself though school. The movie is full of sick racist jokes. Worst book is even harder. If I don’t like a book I quit reading it. I think it unfair to judge a book I didn’t fully read. My favorite author is Robert Ludlum who wrote “The Bourne Identity” (which is much better than the movie or miniseries). I’ve read and enjoyed almost all his books, but I’ll vote for “The Road to Omaha” as the worst book. He tried to make it a comedy and fail miserably. Rogue Nine
Book: I cannot STAND Atlas Shrugged. Even thinking about it or Ayn Rand makes my blood boil. Quoted for utter, incontrovertible and complete truth. :3 As for movies... Battlefield Earth. I don't think anything else needs to be said. Poor Barry Pepper subjecting himself to such an awful role in such an awful movie.
Titanius Anglesmith
I actually haven't seen/gone to too many bad movies, but I'd say that I hate any cheesy, low-budget, made-for-TV sci-fi movie. Movies like Boa vs. Python, Alien Apocalypse, or Raptor Island.
DrPhil2501
Worst Movie ever? Alien VS Predator! 'nuff said! It was severely disapointed and s**t! Everything was just simply terrible; the Actors, the Script, the entire plot! I'm afraid it is just so crap, that I cannot think of any other words to describe how terrible it was! Paul Anderson must be banned from making movies... FOREVER! The worst book? Marcovaldo written by Italo Calvino. I just found it too depressing, as I am not into those sort of books! CapNColostomy
The worst movie ever? I don't even have to think about this one. Crank. That has got to be the ****tiest film I've ever had the misfortune of watching. I'm aware that when watching a movie, you have to suspend your belief and what not, but this movie...From the line "I'm going to kick some black ass" to the sex scene in a very public and very busy China Town or whatever the hell it was, it was all I could do not to hurl my tv through the window, and wipe my ass clean with the disc. That's right, I **** myself watching it. I threw up a little too. It should be noted that I had Crank and Dave Chappelles block party GIVEN to me by the same person on the same day, and somehow, even though they were free, I felt cheated. Ripped off. I wanted a refund. I wanted four hours of my life back. You know how when you're sitting around, and you hear this high pitch whistling sound, and you think that maybe somehow you can hear some weird dog whistle that has been rigged to work only on your ears, because nobody else can hear it? That's your blood pressure shooting through the roof. That's Gods way of saying "if you don't stop watching this ****ty movie, and I mean right now, I swear I'll kill you." I know what you're thinking. How can I say Crank was crap for being so unbelievable and be a fan of Star Wars at the same time? Star Wars is more believable. Diego Varen
Worst Movie: Moulin Rogue - I watched it and I thought what. It did start off promising though. Worst Book: I don't think I've read a bad book.
MdKnightR
Worst Movie - Napoleon Dynamite...HANDS DOWN the worst thing to ever be filmed. Worst Book - "The Fall of Magic" by D.J. Heinrich. It was the final book of the Penhaligon Trilogy set in the Known World of the D&D box sets of the 80's. The first 2 books were okay, but the bottom fell out of the 3rd one and made me feel that I had waisted a boatload of time reading the set. Titanius Anglesmith
Ooh, I'd have to agree with Moulin Rogue. I never actually watched it all the way through, but even if I had, I wouldn't have had any idea what the hell was going on. I didn't get the point of the movie at all. Worst Movie: Pirates Of the Caribbean........ I hate it!!... I hate Jack Sparrow .... I hate Pirates of the caribbean 1 ,2 and 3 .. I just hate it ohh exept Keira Knightley.......and I am from the Caribbean
RC-1162
The Padawan had better start running from the PotC fans here Book: Heidi. They call this a childrens classic. I call it pure boredom. Movie: The Matrix movies. I really don't understand the hype about these. They just suck.
Boba Rhett
Moulin Rogue? Was that some sort of Rebel Strike spin-off? Boy, I loved a lot of these movies you guys are mentioning! Hmm, I guess I'll go with Battlefield Earth. Or maybe Godzilla.
Totenkopf
I'm not sure what the worst book I've ever read was, but it was probably something I had to read for an American or British Lit class. One of the slower books I've ever read was Grisham's The Chamber. It seemed to drag like molasses in an ice storm. Worst movie? Not sure here either, but a several good candidates have been mentioned, chiefly Battlefield Earth. There was enough cheese in that movie to feed a colony of starving rats and make them fat 'n happy. adamqd
Off the top of my head, revolver= Completely Irrelevant, over complicated babble! Hell Boy= Not the worst but highly overrated.
DrPhil2501
Movie: The Matrix movies. I really don't understand the hype about these. They just suck. ... how dare you! *slap* I know another; Nacho Libre! Pure s***! Which doesn't surprise me, 'cause it was made by the same guy who made Napolean Dynamite! One of Jack Black's worst films, EVER!
Bob Lion54
HA! Some really good examples of bad movies here. I have to agree that Battlefield Earth was horrible. I saw it in the theater, no less... What a waste of money. Another horrid movie I unfortunately paid to see in the theater was 200 Cigarettes. A friend of mine talked us into going. I was ready to leave after the first twenty minutes, but no! He had to see the whole movie and he drove... However, the dubious honor of worst movie belongs not to anything mentioned. You have not seen a truly bad movie until you've see: Manos: The Hands of Fate Look it up on youtube if you don't believe me. It was listed as the #1 worst movie off all time on imbd.com for years until a group of people thought it would be funny to try to get it off the Bottom 100. As far books... well, I can't really say. I haven't really read anything I hated. I tried reading Eragon to see what all they hype was about, but I couldn't finish it... I wouldn't call it bad, though. Just boring. Darth InSidious
My worst book is Anthony Trollope's The Prime Minister, dull, plodding, and full of seemingly endless, tedious interviews with endless, tedious people. Avoid at all costs. Do not approach - it is bombastic and easily opened.
Mike Windu
Worst book ever is actually a play I had to read for Lit class called Wit, by Margaret Edson. Most dull and pretentious play I've ever had to drag myself through. Other than that, there's a terrible book that I started to read but never finished, Tony Morrison's Beloved. As for worst movie... I can't really recall the worst movie I've ever seen because I try to stay away from bad movies..but if you want disappointing movies, take a look at Matrix and Pirates sequels. JediKnight707
Hmmm. Worst Movie? Off the top of my head, I'd say either Spidey 3 or Bat. Earth. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan (I love The Twilight Zone, Star Wars, and the Eragon books) but BE was terrible. And Spider-Man 3 was so filled with love cliches, The Notebook would have been proud. Worst book? I think that Where are the Children? by Mary Higgins Clark was a load of bull. No suspense at all. But I'm not a father, so maybe it just didn't shake me as much.
