The Best Theme Tunes!

Taak Farst

TV Programmes, Movies and even video games have theme tunes, may they be songs or a tune the producers have got someone to make. List your faves!

-----------------------------------------------

Starting off with my faves:

I love the piano theme tune for Will & Grace - so catchy IMO.

The song, I'll Be There For You by The Rembrandts, is a perfectly suited theme to the Friends sitcom I think.

I like the theme tune to The Elder Scrolls III: Oblivion because of the loudness and powerful sound.

The Star Trek theme, and when I mean that, I mean the very first one, with the theremin-esque female chorus. Totally epic. :carms:

(This BBCode requires its accompanying plugin to work properly.)

After that, there's the Seinfeld theme, all in slap bass goodness.

The Doctor Who theme from 1980-1984 was seriously awesome.

(This BBCode requires its accompanying plugin to work properly.)

The two newest versions are also great, but the Davison era theme was the best.

NCIS has an awesome piano bit in its theme song.

(This BBCode requires its accompanying plugin to work properly.)

JAG should go without saying.

(This BBCode requires its accompanying plugin to work properly.)

The theme for Quantum Leap was just fun. :xp:

The Two and a Half Men theme tune is great for making jokes about your best mate's sexuality while you're drinking. It looses it's appeal while sober, for the most part.

The Star Trek themes are great, but the theme for Next Generation holds a specials place in my heart for having Patrick Stewart speaking in it. That man has a gorgeous voice. The Voyager theme is one that's resounded in my soul since I was a child, though.

For video games, the music in both Knights of the Old Republic games are some of my favourites.

My vote also goes to the theme from Doctor Who; the original from 1963. It's all the more amazing when one considers that it was produced before the advent of the synthesizer. Delia Derbyshire was a genius.

The BBC was great with sound in the early days. How they created the sound for the TARDIS was fantastic: they ran a car key along the strings of a gutted grand piano, and played it backwards.

Heretic, Hero - Halo 2

(This BBCode requires its accompanying plugin to work properly.)

Could been seen as the Arbiter's theme, even if it isn't directly said to be.

Gravemind - Halo 3

(This BBCode requires its accompanying plugin to work properly.)

Might not exactly be the character's theme, but the part at around 3:37 makes you seriously get the danger of the flood.(Maybe not exactly that, but you have to admit the drums sound great)

(I cannot believe no one mentioned this one.)

Imperial March - Darth Vader's Theme

(This BBCode requires its accompanying plugin to work properly.)

Can't help but like this.

Also, i like most if not all of the music made for both KotOR and TSL. Namely Malak's theme from K1, and the "Dark Side" track from K2(the one that plays when DS points at gained, and the one during the "Kreia's Fall" moive) Only wish the full version of the track was played in game.

I always liked the grandiose theme of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, especially the variant from Seasons 4-7.

The Star Trek theme, and when I mean that, I mean the very first one, with the theremin-esque female chorus. Totally epic.[/Quote]

Imperial March also.

And a few from games: 'The Jedi' from TSL, the theme of Assassin's Creed, and the Archadian Empire/Order of the Judges theme from Final Fantasy XII.

and the House theme.
Continuing with that, I'd say that Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines has an
that's perfect for the game. It's based on Massive Attack's Angel (this video is great also).

I also liked the themes from:

Rome: Total War

Grim Fandango (Don't think there's a main theme, but any from the soundtrack will do, they're all great)

Full Throttle

The Angel theme by Darling Violetta

I'm quite fond of the music used in Barry Lyndon - Kubrick didn't use specially made compositions, favouring music that had been written during the movie's time period - the use of music adds to an already brilliant film.

Schubert's Piano Trio

I also quite liked the theme to John Adams, which also made use of the two pieces above.

James Bond

Or Max Payne 2's "the Late Goodbye".

Also You Know my name by Chris Cornell is only Casino Royal's theme song. While it was a great song and fit with both the character of James Bond and it's gunbarrel sequence at the beginning. The original theme song is still much better.

EDIT: Also I have to mention this. Oblivion's theme song was just a badly done cover of Morrowind's theme song. But maybe that's just nostalgia talking as I have fond memories listening to that song over and over while fighting liches in Mournhold's sewers. All Oblivion's cover was, was a loud and war-like version compared to Morrowind's fantasy and magic-like version
