  1. OK, consider this pretty much done (music addition may or may not happen (but probably may)): https://mixnmojo.com/countdown/ Thanks to @Marius and @Kroms for constructive activities additions, and more importantly @Thrik -- our miniature Buddha -- for his strict but wise guidance.

  2. And here it is, probably the first Dave Grossman foto since E3 2010. I'm just so glad he's involved.

  3. I think if you divorce them, the game would need to address it in some way, then suddenly a portion of the game text has to be about the creators feelings about the characters relationship, and maybe that is more annoying than just not spending time litigating it. At some point it’s easier to say, fine the status quo can just exist and we’ll move on.

  4. Wow, Ron really dislikes the whole porcelain gag. I sorta thought he was just being sarcastic on Twitter, but he really wants that thrown out. Now that I think about it, I guess it's not the type of humor Ron would write. Also really respectful how he admittedly still hates Elaine and Guybrush getting married, but knows too many people love that plot point to undo it.

  5. Oh! I didn't realize we had CONFIRMATION that Captain Madison is the tall pirate leader in the middle, and also confirmation she is a "she"! Rex Crowle: And here I was, thinking, "I hope he doesn't take me first!" Alright. I really like the pirate leaders, especially Madison, this very tall character. For a lot of the characters in the game I needed a lot of concept art, showed it to Ron and Dave, improved it and so on. But Madison, I just drew her like that, with her beanpole character and that ridiculously tall, long face and the hat on top - she was perfect right away. It's really hard for me to make a decision, but if I have to, I'll choose Madison.

  7. I think it's probably fair to say that Hit the Road has the highest number of non-human primates in the non-MI LucasArts canon. Unless we're counting Wookiees? ...Christ, we're not, are we? EDIT: No, damn it, we can't go making that statement definitively! There were a significant number of monkeys running around in Infernal Machine, and I think Desktop Adventures may have had some as well. Wheels within wheels, fires within fires...how deep does the mystery go???

  8. I remember when Jurassic Park 3 (Allen!) came out and had Dr Statler and Dr Grant separated and semi estranged through an off screen story, and that was jarring to audiences and falling away from expected movie tropes of couples staying together unless we witnessed the breakdown. More like "hey this would fit the story if they were apart for then to have Grant call her at the last second from a dino-poop-satellite-phone". I guess what I'm saying is, stay together unless the separation is an earned story point?? I think that's what I'm saying. Jurassic Park 3 was fairly awful. That was my point.

  9. I found that a bit odd, honestly. I think it's true that some people are attached to them as a couple, but are people really that attached to them being married? And even if they were, his feelings about it have been known for years, would it really have been that shocking if he'd divorced them? I feel like there are interesting ways of exploring their relationship dynamic outside of them being a married couple. I don't feel strongly about it, but I'm just a little surprised Ron felt this was such an unshakable part of the series now that he couldn't mess with it at all.

  10. To paraphrase @elTee, the original games were all about the DRM of the time.

  13. I was referring to the Monkey Kombat section, in which Guybrush encounters timid monkeys, smelly monkeys, strapping monkeys, and brawny monkeys in infinite amounts. I would use the same logic to argue there are infinite pirates in MI1, during the swordfighting section. The great tragedy is that during the 90s and early 00s, pop culture raised us on everything being a monkey. Let's blow our minds: MONKEY KOMBAT IS A LIE. Anxious Ape - not a monkey Bobbing Babboon - monkey Charging Chimp - not a monkey Drunken Monkey - monkey Gimpy Gibbon - not a monkey THREE-FIFTHS OF THE MONKEY KOMBAT STANCES ARE ACTUALLY APE KOMBAT!! But MI1 failed us originally. Ten years before Herman Toothrot told us he was H.T. Marley, he was telling us that he found enough chimpanzees on Monkey Island to crew a ship, and also these chimpanzees were monkeys. There have been no chimps seen in the MI franchise (with the possible exception of Captain LeChimp). Are we to actually believe that Herman found enough chimps on Monkey Island to crew his ship? If a crew of chimps sailed the Sea Monkey back to MΓͺlΓ©e and sold it to Stan, then where did they go? Are they dead? Did they sail back to the Eastern Hemisphere?!! I trained a bunch of chimps to crew the ship and sail it back to Monkey Island. They were supposed to get help and come back for me. Something must have happened. How come you didn't just go with the chimps? WEEKS on a boat full of monkeys. Oh, joy.

  18. Anyone notice that the official website for Return to Monkey Island and the Steam pre-order page no longer say that the game "concludes" or is the "conclusion" to the entire series? Just before July, the website still touted the upcoming game as wrapping up the saga. And now both the website and Steam simply say it "continues" the series. Is this because Ron and Dave want to downplay the significance of this being their planned finale for Monkey Island? Are more chapters already in the works based off the positive development of this one? Β¬ Β¬ Apologies if this has been asked and debated already, I am very lazy and could only manage typing this up before a nap.

  20. The chimp would have eaten their face off in the third week and the ship never would have made it, as of all the great apes they're known to be the worst with a compass. This brings up a great point which my previous post accidentally obfuscated: chimps, orangutans, gorillas, and bonobos are the *great* apes (along with humans and Bigfeets), but there are also the lesser apes of the gibbon family (including the siamang). My point is that...shit, I actually don't think I had one.

  22. My PC wasn't connected to the net years ago. I bought a game on disc that I couldn't play without connecting to Steam. I've been boycotting them ever since πŸ™ƒ I'm also into software being free as in freedom which doesn't mix well with DRM - it's ironic that Steam/Valve are doing good things for Linux gaming but GOG really aren't πŸ€”

  26. Something about his wording makes me wonder if we'll be interacting with the crew AS LeChuck. That'd be quite something!

  27. As long as it is not this clichΓ© marriage talk again like in Escape or even Tales, I’m totally fine with it. But from the screenshots I somehow don’t get that vibe. We’ll see. Interesting that Gilbert names LeChuck’s crew as his favorite β€œcharacter” in ReMI because the members now have (more) personality and you get to interact with them. I liked that in the clips we’ve seen so far and am really looking forward to that.

  28. More compelling evidence of this being mostly post Tales in this interview. https://www.gamersglobal.de/interview/return-to-monkey-island It seems as though Elaine and Guybrush will still be married in the game, which I'm glad isn't being erased.

  29. Ideally there should be no spoilers in titles as that defeats the point of having spoiler and non-spoiler threads. We can edit spoilers if they do appear, but not control what people post in the first place!

  31. Would it sound completely off-topic if I say that I'll play it on the PC? It will be probably on the bigger monitor, but before that I'll try to screencast it to the living room TV, hoping to minimize the lag.

  32. Hey! Just wanted to say that I hear your frustration, and I didnβ€˜t mean to downplay your (and my) concerns about the ugly side of internet society (unsure if this description is a summary of the issue but I am no wordsmith and I think you know what I mean). I am sharing most of the emotions you have, and rereading my comments I realize I poked a nerve which wasnβ€˜t necessary or funny.

  33. I believe David Fox quasi-confirmed that touchscreen would be supported.

  34. Do we know yet if RtMI will support touchscreen controls on Switch? That will likely be what determines what I get it on - I love playing games on handheld systems, but moving a cursor with a thumbstick is to me an inherently worse experience than using a mouse.

  36. Hi! Sorry, I feel like I'm disrupting a conversation. I'm new here. I'm not a native speaker, so I apologize if my English is a bit clumsy. I've been a fan of Monkey Island since I was a kid, in the 90s, MI2 is my favorite game (and MI2's ending is my favorite ending ever), and I've been really excited about Return since its announcement in April. So I guess I just wanted to meet and discuss with other fans. ❀️ I already preordered the game (on the Switch), and I can't wait it for it to come out. I've been going on Twitter religiously every Monday to see new clips from Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman. I personally love the art style. It has, for me, kind of weird, in a good way, and unique vibe. It made me feel like I'm gonna enter this strange world, which is exactly how I felt when I first played MI1 and 2 in the 90s. I always felt like RG's games had some kind of Lynchian vibe, and I think this fits perfectly. Anyway... Nice to meet you all!
