Fiestainabox
I alsways wondered, what will it be like when us gamers get older? Like when we're 30, maybe 40, heck even 50? Will we still be playing Kotor 2, or will we heat our house of our Geoforce 1 millions? Will we still play games? Will we live with out parents? What will we be like in the future, Share Your insight...
Emperor Devon
Like when we're 30 I think some of us are perfectly happy staying one year below that for decades. For gaming, like all hobbies, I'll stay with it until I lose interest, whether I'm 40, 50 or 90.

lukeiamyourdad
I'm already an adult...in the legal way. Seriously though, as you can see, gaming has evolved from Super Mario Bros to Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball as gamers grew older. I think the market has pretty much reached good maturity, with different games for different ages. What I can see is video gaming becoming more of a family activity as the "I don't know nothing about technology" generation fades away (I wanted to use "dies away", but some of our forummites would cry ). Even now, parents are starting to play video games with their kids at an early age. If it helps families spend more time together, can't be wrong I also see the conflict between the gamers and the "zOMG video games are 3v1L!" folks slowly die down. Of course, it will still be a subject of concern and probably won't dissapear, but it won't be the center of attention anymore. Especially when the world realizes that the anti-gamers are mostly nutjobs and political opportunists. Like all those imbeciles who denounced porn in the 80's. Turns out they were pretty big perverts. EDIT: When I'm forty I'll be playing Duke Nukem Forever on my Infinium Phantom. So you're what? 38-39? Friend of a friend who knows a guy who used to live under a tree in a box that was used by a garbage man whose route included a house where one of the dev's uncles lived? Even now, parents are starting to play video games with their kids at an early age. If it helps families spend more time together, can't be wrong We play Kotor with our kids. They're a little too young to do some of the math puzzles and don't quite have the manual dexterity for things like the turret game, but we'll read the questions and look through the dialog answers to choose one, pick out different tactics for battle, that kind of thing, and it's a lot of fun. It's fun to see my son laughing at some of the Jolee comments. Like all those imbeciles who denounced porn in the 80's. Turns out they were pretty big perverts. Yeah, I still denounce porn. I'm not a perv, and last I checked, my IQ didn't put me into the imbecile category. It's an industry that exploits women. You never hear a little girl saying "when I grow up, I want to be a porn star and have people get their yukks leering at my private parts'. It's wrong. But that's a topic for another thread. Edit: The games are just as fun at, um, 29 as they are at 19 or 9. I may play something a little more sophisticated than Spongebob, but they're still all fun games. Sabretooth
I'll be bitching in front of a bloody flat screen about how I don't have the money to buy a 360-vision console, or how I get fragged in Unreal Tournament 2046, or writing some kooky fanfic based off an ancient franchise called "Star Bars" or something. I like to think thats me, cos the suit is almost identical to my finctional superhero suit that makes me fly and project holograms. It also has a laser and mag pulse launcher on the wrists as well as a microdermic sensor that automaticalyl adjusts the suit and can make it fold and disappear into several sections of my body. machievelli
guys, the advantage of being my age (53) is that I have seen it change so much in my own lifetime that quite honestly don't want to even consider where it might be where all of you are in your forties, and i am in my nineties. But look at it this way. Let's assume you are 13 right now. When I was 13 it was 1966. The space program had ended the Geminii series launches. They had developed a nifty new onboard computer to make the capsule operable by one man if necessary. The same computing power is less than the average electronic telephone of today. They were going to replace it for the Apollo missions that had just started with something that is the equivilent of the IBM 286. On the ground, scientist were still claming that to create something that would emulate a person, you needed a computer the size of the Empire State building. You would need the entire output of Niagra power station to operate it, and all of the water from the falls to cool it. They thought it was cute when I was in High school (1969-71) when we watched a computer (that took up four rooms when you considered tape drives, etc) swallow a double handful of punchcards and play Anchor's Aweigh. So what will you be doing? Reminding all of those younger people how 'horrible' it was when you were kids before holograpihc, interactive AI driven games were invented. There definitly was a lot of progress in the last century, however, I have the feeling that it considerably slowed down in the last 10 years or so... I don't know if I will still be playing games in a few years, gaming is just acceptable as long as there is nothing better to do for me. Well gaming rocks, so there are not often better things to do Maybe when I got a cool job, earning millions, my hobbies will change. Like playing Golf with celebrities. Cygnus Q'ol
I'm well over 30 (unlike Jae) and more of my time is spent towards gaming than it ever was as a kid or as a collegiately challenged student. My thumb to eye coordination hasn't missed a beat so far and I can still match any of my old high scores on Galaga, Pac-man and Donkey Kong. But, age has brought me presents that can't be acquired while young. Experience and knowledge. Unfortunately, those only come with time. You younglings should be teeming with anticipation at the new games that pour out every year. They seem to get graphically better and more realistic with each new title. Most are still bad, but the ratio of good games vs. bad games is getting better. The future looks bright for the gaming youth of today. I can easily picture the evolution of holographic, three dimentional games soon in the future. The days of staring at a screen to play will be a thing of the past. I also see the evolution of games that involve more of your whole body than just your hands and brain. There have already been breakthroughs in those areas but most have remained primitive so far. That will change I suspect, as time goes on. Automobiles, aircraft, and spaceflight sims will increase in realism and I expect more rpg's to start surfacing in the console arena for those that aren't computer savy. I most certainly plan on enjoying my elderly years kicking the pants off of young whipper-snapper upstart wannabees that think this old man can't play anymore. ChAiNz.2da
Damnit younguns... I totally misread the title and you got a 'dirty old man' all hot and bothered for a sec.. hehehe As far as gaming goes.. hell yeah, I'll be gaming AND shooing the kids off my lawn at the same time.. Besides, I've just now started to make enough 'mature elder people' money to "keep up" with the technology. I remember my old minimum wage jobs when I was younger and there's no way I would've been able to afford the stuff they have out nowadays (I think the system is rigged by golly.. that and I can't hit up mom -n- dad for toys anymore).. Nowadays, there's definitely a demographic for the 'older' generation and the actual target age for games and gaming has steadily increased over the years. It's no longer youth and younger teens.. it's more in the range of upper-teens to mid 20's as the sweet spot in marketing... I bet there will be more and more like her: http://oghc.blogspot.com/ I lurrrrve teh OGHC I aspire to be the 'old man PC version' of her
