Astor
Telegraph Story The 1980 film - George Lucas's follow-up to Star Wars: A New Hope - drew almost a fifth of all votes. Do you agree, or do you have your own 'greatest sequel'?
Totenkopf
I think that as sequels go, ESB and TWoK (Star Trek) were two of the most satisfying followups that come to mind. Aliens was good too.
Prime
I thought ESB would be an obvious choice.
Giant Graffiti
What the hell is Shrek 2 doing on that list?
Ctrl Alt Del
What the hell is Shrek 2 doing on that list? It's an excellent movie. EDIT: But I could certainly ask why is Toy Story 2 there. I thought to be a great sequel, a movie needed to, at the very least, be on par with the original.
Gurges-Ahter
I'm glad ESB won the poll (it would have gotten my vote), but I'm guessing that if that poll had been taken in the US, the Godfather Pt II would have won. What the hell is Shrek 2 doing on that list? Even more surprising was "Meet the Fockers".
JediAthos
Yeah, I'm not shocked that Empire was number one, but I am a little surprised that "Meet the Fockers" was on there. I didn't think it was that great of a movie, but I appear to be in the minority.
ChAiNz.2da
ESB & Aliens. The others are just list fillers
Endorenna
Meh. I liked Dark Knight better than ESB. In fact, sad as this is, ESB is my least favorite Star Wars movie (unless you count the TCW movie), probably 'cuz I got to see it every night for four months straight... Still, it was a good sequel, much better than most of the ones on that list that I've seen.
TKA-001
I'm too lazy to look at the list linked to. Is Back to the Future Part II on there?
Sabretooth
Evil Dead II.
Miltiades
The Dark Knight is one awesome sequel, as are most of the others, but nothing beats Empire Strikes Back indeed.

Q
^Agreed. YAY! I also agree that Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Aliens, The Dark Knight and Evil Dead II are all terrific sequels, but as far as sequels go, The Godfather, Part II sets the bar very high. mimartin
Can’t really argue with the top five, although I would have put Aliens higher on my list. I just want to know where is that American classic WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S II .
LordOfTheFish
There are so many movies I have yet to see I couldn't possibly form an answer. But of those selected yes, ESB is clearly the best.
Fredi
I agree. ESB is the best sequel out of those in the list, at least for me.

True_Avery
Can't argue much with the top 5, but I still would have put Terminator 2 over ESB, but only by a very small margin. ESB was a great movie, but it is also clearly part of a trilogy. T2 arrived, and in of itself was a complete movie. You really don't even need to see the first at all to enjoy T2, and it ends with a complete wrap up of it. You don't feel like T2 needed another movie after, which is why T3 and T4 are so, well... offensive. Dark Knight is much the same. I've heard critics say that a good sequel is one that can stand by itself as a near complete movie, and its one of the few things I'll agree with major critics on. Lord of the Rings Two Towers and ESB are both great movies, but both really require a viewing of the previous and next to get a full scope of things. Even Aliens is quite capable of surviving as a single movie, although not to the level of T2 or Dark Knight. So, while I love ESB... I would have put T2 over it but that is just me. Rest of the list looks pretty right.
Revan 411
or do you have your own 'greatest sequel'? Yes, I do. The Godfather Part II, enough said.
jawathehutt
LOTR The Two Towers would have gotten my vote, its my favorite movie of all time
Blix
I agree with it, ESB is a pretty good choice as far as best sequels go. As for Dark Knight, well how do you categorize a sequel that outperformed its predecessor?
Pavlos
So, while I love ESB... I would have put T2 over it but that is just me. Rest of the list looks pretty right. Terminator 2 doesn't have shots like this, now, does it? Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show) So, yeah.
